Pardon my ignorance, but could this be made to work with drives using the USB interface, or would I need to pursue an alternate option? Going to be interesting getting a more modern HP DAT 72 or similar IBM drive to work with my Windows 11 laptop. And commence the migraine.

I think this is exactly what happened to me. I was surfing for some hard drive problems and seemingly got a virus to my Windows. Now I have a death screen and don't know what to do. P.S. that is on my laptop.

Please don't worry. Thank God they are not asking for money from you like they did for my sister. So you can check out Computerity and they have recommendations for the sorts of problems with a computer. I am sure that you will find out what to do. I guess the situation is difficult, but not impossible. After you finish, use their bottlenecks calculator to foresee any possible problems with your PC in future.
