Option to add friends etc in CIO.
Give nicknames to people so we can remember them since people change usernames all the time. So with your friendlist (with nickname) you can keep track of the friends and contact them if needed.
Kind of like steam does for steam friends

that functionality is not available in forum , but this follow system is good.... if you follow you will see when they are online from above link.. also you will get notification when they post....

Hmm, my thing was like steam accounts .. so people can know what name they are going by now to remember people from their nicknames.
