The "Big Three" MMOs have a steadfast population, so I doubt the genre will die out anytime soon. It'd take a spectacular crash to knock them off a peg or two.

I wouldn't say dying.  The more technology progresses, the more jaw dropping new gen MMOs will look and feel.  And at that point people really can't help it but to try them out.  It's more-so the attention span an MMO gives you imo.  Like take BDO for example.  For me BDO has been my goto MMO for the past 4 years.  But until recently the game just feels dull.  It's literally an AFK sim or a grind sim if you're not into pvp whatsoever.  At endgame you're literally just playing "catch up" the entire time because the amount of gear you have is never enough.  If MMO devs could find a way to make every bit of content unique and not repetitive, while still maintaining stunning graphics, a nice combat system, etc.  it would greatly reduce the amount of people counting down the days of the next "big" MMO to be released, or just giving up on the genre entirely.

To be honest it's mostly because it's just so hard to find appeal to everyone with an mmorpg. Most studios can't find the good middle ground and lack on many aspects of the game. For example, Guild Wars 2 was amazing graphically back then, but I had stopped at like level 20 before I realized it since the combat was not engaging to me. I also find that not many companies dare trying to make an mmorpg consideringb only WoW is truly prevalent. That's my opinion though!

I don't think they are dead, there a looot of people looking for an alternative on the market but the companies prefer to release unfinished cash grabs instead of finished, well build games.

i played old MMORPG, like ragnarok wonderlandonline. i loved it to get throwen in  world without any clue of to do the quest u just have to find out everything on your own and it was a huge grind game in my opinion. Nowdays everything is very easy to reach and sometimes a lot of pay to win included. I hate it back in my days if i had some special gear everyone would look up to you and see what you accomplished.  Miss the old days Pepe
