Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva are part of the trimurti, often considered the three main gods of current Hinduism, along with Devi, or the goddess.
However, we may comprehend these three main gods as manifested forms of Brahman, the ultimate reality, when subjected to the gunas or qualities of the manifested world (saguna-brahman, receiving the title of Bhagavan, Lord).
This ultimate reality is comprehended in several different ways by the different schools and traditions of Hinduism, and in order to develop a devotional relationship with this Absolute, we’d need a name and a form (nama-rupa).
We can say that one possible name and form to relate with this ultimate reality is Shiva. And those who adopt this form and are inserted in this tradition are called shaivites. Not all hindus are shaivites and not all of them will put Shiva’s form “above” the other devas.
All the Trimurti, ie, Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva are the same and equal. All scriptures have texts and Shlokas stating that.
