Porn is not addictive. Whoever told you that is either lying or an idiot.
I’m a certified sex coach and research analyst whose life goals include tearing down these myths and dismantling NoFap over their white supremacist origins (look it up). I’ve personally audited the CDC and WHO reports on addiction and the studies on what are now referred to as “problematic sexual behaviors.” Both organizations have recommended dropping “addiction” from publications on porn use and aberrant sexual interests. The statistical studies agree that most people watch 20-45 minutes of porn, 1-3 times a day—which means it’s normal.
Porn is not addictive by reason of the fact that porn is not eaten, needled into the blood, or absorbed through the skin. And before anyone takes up the argument of “but muh dopamine!”…dopamine is the body’s reward system, and sex is mostly a good thing to have. The “problems” you have to look at are things like work stress, diet, other life needs which may not be met, causing a void that porn happens to fill. Other fillers include Michael Bay movies, the Lifetime Channel, art museums, music players with headphones, and choosing extra pepperoni when you order pizza.
Masturbating privately (and responsibly) never got anyone pregnant, never spread a disease, and you automatically know it’s sex with someone you love. (Paraphrasing fmr. Surgeon General, Dr. Joycelyn Elders.)
