Been thinking about this for a bit. Contributor is significantly harder to get than Supreme, yet Supreme is just a better rank. It looks way nicer, it has a more noticeable username effect, and it has a thread prefix bonus. Contributor has none of that, it's just this flat yellow boring whatever. Everything above and below Contributor looks nicer and is more rewarding to strive for or just easier to get. It's time for an upgrade.
I understand incentivizing people to purchase upgrades because sites cost money to run but incentivizing community contribution should also be a primary function as well.
If this thread gets enough support I'll draft some mockups and stuff and make a thread where we can all vote on the best one.
Let me be clear; I am NOT PROPOSING ALL OF THESE. This is just a rudimentary list of things I could see POTENTIALLY being additions. In reality it will not be all of these but will be some combination of a subset of these.
Potential changes:
Username Glow
Username Effect
Modified Userbar
Unique Thread Prefix
Unique Award
+7/-7 Rep Mod
Complimentary High-class Escort
$5,000 BTC Reward

I was sort of outlining the idea when I was explaining how Supreme is better but I should be more specific.

These are two different things. One is a user rank that must be achieved, the other is a purchased upgrade / usergroup. If you are not a paid user, the main reward for the contributor rank is that you are no longer bound by the registered users restrictions (ie post limits, must reply to see content). If you did purchase an upgrade, I agree there isn't much of a reward. Making the yellow color glow or sparkle or whatever isn't going to make anyone want it more though.
One thing I suggested in another thread was to make max rep +/- additive for each rank. So if you are supreme, you have +/- 6, but when you get contributor rank you get an additional 2, when you get godlike you get 2 more, and when you get heaven you would get another 2. So Supreme + Contributor = 8, Supreme + Godlike = 10, Supreme + Heaven = 12. It would provide more incentive for people to achieve the different ranks and post more content than how it's currently setup IMO.
