Let's say you get banned because you did too many refunds outside of the regular return period and no refund scams. Do they refund your gift card balance to your bank account? Are they obliged to do it?

Think about it: why WOULD they?

Because you spent real money on the gift card and it should be your property. And if you get banned for low-key bullshit reasons, then it wouldn't be right of them to keep that money. I think that in my particular case the ban would be bullshit because what happened was they suddenly changed the return window for electronics from 4 to 2 weeks without explicitly notifying their customers. This caused me to return 7 items a bit too late. I did contact the customer support beforehand and they consented to the late return, but I still got one of those you-violated-the-TOS-emails so my account is now in danger of being banned.

I can imagine cases like mine in which there's gonna be an unfair ban like that. And I wonder if it's safe for Amazon to just keep the gift card balance considering maybe some of those banned people might file a lawsuit or make bad publicity at some point.
