Because they use weird symbols that Discord does not recognize. So it automatically deletes the symbol. Let's say the name Is John#5412

And x person uses John(weird symbol)#5412 then it basically removes the symbol and done. 

Be aware, if someone adds you for no reason. If someone says they can help you ask for their profile. 

If it's a reputated member ask if they can send a message on Cracked for verification. If not, tell them you want to use a middleman.

They're using special letters from other languages, russian etc.
So they can copy another "o" and replace it with the original one, for example.

@Simpple that's wrong, Discord doesnt delete those nor change them, it's as explained above a special letter which looks like the same or they use a space with 0 width which is also possible.
