Use WebSockets for Alerts

Not sure if it's feasible, but it would be nice if the alerts were converted to use WebSockets or SSE's so we could get notification updates without refreshing the page.

I agree. I don't really know how complex it would be to implement. My experience with WS is limited to building stuff on the client side. If it requires too much effort, I would completely understand why we would choose not to move forward with it.

I believe @J_S already has some experience working with WebSockets (from Shoutbox), but again, I'm not sure how much he'd be able to leverage existing code for a project like this.
Talked to @J_S briefly last week and he does not have prior experience w/ WebSockets. My bad.
