The big thing here is distinguishing FLOP/s vs cryptographic hash calculations. Obviously the latter is far more complex and resource intensive, so it's not a 1:1 translation in terms of computational power.

Also, whenever tech improves and people want to use it for blackhat there will always be (arguably more) people using the same exact tech for security and whitehat. Cryptography will evolve along with new tech as usual.
