Important Community Warning: Beware of a Scam Strategy Targeting Buyers and Sellers

Dear community members,
We write to bring your attention to a scam strategy that has recently emerged and is targeting individuals involved in buying and selling services or products. It is essential to stay vigilant and protect ourselves from falling victim to these deceitful tactics. Allow us to outline the scam in detail so that you can recognize the warning signs and take necessary precautions.
The scam typically unfolds in the following manner:
  1. Pretending to be an Interested Buyer/Seller: The scammer will initially approach you, expressing interest in purchasing your service or product. They may seem genuine and engage in conversations to gain your trust.
  2. Requesting a Middleman: The scammer will propose involving a middleman to facilitate the transaction. This is often done to create a sense of security and build confidence in the legitimacy of the deal.
  3. Expressing Surprise at Middleman Fees: Once the middleman is introduced and their fees are disclosed, the scammer will act shocked and dismayed by the perceived high costs. They will attempt to negotiate a lower fee or express discontent with the proposed amount.
  4. Creating a Fake Middleman Account: At this stage, the scammer will leave the original group and create a new one, using a pre-established fake account impersonating the actual middleman. They will then rejoin the conversation and claim to present an alternative offer for the fees.
  5. Misdirecting Payments to Personal Wallet: With the fake middleman account, the scammer will provide payment details, such as a wallet address, for you to send the crypto or payment. However, unbeknownst to you, these payments will go directly into the scammer's actual wallet, bypassing the middleman entirely.
To safeguard our community from falling victim to this scam, we strongly advise taking the following precautions:
  1. Thoroughly Vet Buyers and Sellers: Exercise caution when dealing with unfamiliar individuals. Verify their identities, check their reputation within the community, and conduct background research before proceeding with any transaction.
  2. Communicate Directly with Verified Middlemen: When a middleman is proposed, independently verify their credentials and contact them directly through trusted channels. Do not rely solely on the information or contacts provided by the other party.
  3. Be Wary of Unsolicited Offers and Unusual Requests: If a potential buyer or seller makes unexpected requests, acts suspiciously, or proposes alternative arrangements, proceed with caution. It's better to be safe than sorry.
  4. Double-Check Payment Details: Always verify the payment instructions given by the middleman. Cross-reference the provided information with official sources or previously established communication channels to ensure accuracy.
  5. Report Suspected Scammers: If you encounter any suspicious activity or believe you have been targeted by a scammer, promptly report the incident to the appropriate authorities and notify the community. This will help protect others from falling victim to the same fraudulent scheme.
Remember, staying informed and cautious is crucial in preserving the integrity of our community. By being vigilant and sharing knowledge, we can collectively create a safer environment for all participants.
