Hello, firstly i am not a journalist or some government official or whatever. I am merely a concerned citizen looking into something governments are pushing for in multiple places now, forcing adult websites (and even social media) to have age verification technology in place "to protect children". As always, the people in power and calling for this stuff have no idea at all how this stuff will go wrong and don't know or care about the risks, the people who are providing the technology do not care and simply want to make money from it.

I have the foresight to know that this will likely not work, could be bypassed by someone with an android emulator, software to stream video to webcam and someone's verification video while also creating a black market for this kind of stuff, including verification videos and accounts to bypass it - not to mention opening up doors for people to spy on people though webcams and extort them for money, apparently the people backing and supporting this kind of stuff have not realised this and/or do not care to look into it.

I am against these type of laws, i think its an invasion of privacy and a waste of time and money, i also think someone will likely take their own life as a result of this stuff. It's a ticking time bomb.

Anyway, i would rather keep it short and simple. Below are a few questions.

1) Is there a market for this kind of stuff, specifically verification videos?

2) Would it be possible for websites to be set solely to target people for age verification details?

3) Do age verification phishing sites exist? (ie yoti, etc)

4) Will there be a market for stolen AV data in the same way as there is for premium porn site log ins?

My apologies if this is against the rules or in the wrong place, etc i am simply looking for info on this stuff. I won't rest till these laws are scrapped or justice is done.

I do not have any issue with people exploiting or otherwise making money from this stuff, my beef is with the people passing the laws and enabling this stuff.

Sorry for the long delay, i didn't expect much to come of this. I see people think i am a fed or a cop but that is not the case, i'm am just an anorak with a bone to pick and a strong interest in keeping their internet activities private.

Anyway, 10 states in the US has in legislation that will essentially force AVS onto websites (or even device level) to "protect the children". Most of these states use debunked pseudoscience and clearly motivated by religious intolerance (and anti-lgbtq+ hysteria) to promote these bills, a healthy dose of not knowing about how the internet works seems to help as well.

Regardless, the fact that i got an ad today for some deep fake/vtuber/face swap app that promotes itself as being able to be used on zoom and twitch - aka being able to replace a webcam output with something else that pretends to be a older person probably destroys most of the "privacy preserving" techniques many of these companies promote, you can't really ban this type of stuff unless you collect data which many age verification companies claim to not to...

Louisiana is the only state in the US with this type of system in place, using LA wallets, some thing people use to buy booze in the state. It has not been hacked yet... [Image: feelssadman.png]

Anyway, i expect once these systems are up an running, a data breach will be inevitable and politicians along with anybody else who is backing this stuff will be running around in circles trying to work out what to do and say, i have highlighted a laundry list of issues with these systems, including the fact that it will make extortion of people incredibly easy, will likely end up with suicides from people being exposed and the simple fact that it wont work.

I even approached a trade/lobbying group on twitter about these issues, they ignored or otherwise dismissed my issues and later blocked me.

To any budding or enterprising account seller/ransomware group/hacker, if you manage to breach one of these systems and start selling or leak the data and you will probably make bank from horny teenagers and people who know better than giving this company your data.

It's fool proof  Smart
