If the government finds out you are a threat to national security, weapon selling, or doing child porn, it may start surveillance on your activity.
With huge resources they have in fight against such a threats , it's more than likely they will get enough evidence to start the case against you. 
You will never be safe when communicating from your own PC , even if you manage to get your hands on private exit nodes ... its just a matter of time and amount of resources government
put on the case.
Remember,even if RDP owner or VPN owner in their TOS state it will not reveal users data, they stand a little to no chance in the battle against government if case is to serious.

On the other hand ,if you only doing cracking, ddos attacks, I wouldn't worry too much :)
