Ofcourse it is, you are dependent on the other website or service to delete the things you ask them to. If you don't even ask for it, it stays there for years.

However in the EU we have the GPDR which is huge benefit in this scenario, if you ask for deleting if your information the service you ask it to needs to do that. If they don't they are not GPDR compliant and they will get properly punished. The huge issue is, the punishments are huge, but still a peanut thing for big names like Facebook, Google and Amazon.

You can't remove something that you've posted to the internet.

Its easy to find a support team willing to take down content that is hosted on their platform for you (imgur, gyazo, lightshot, etc), however its impossible to remove a file or photo from someone's computer once they've downloaded it.

This is where the true problem starts as once someone has downloaded your content they're free to share it wherever and whenever they want. If no actual people see it, then it is most likely one of the billions of bots across the internet.

So, yes it is true and its somewhat horrifying to think about.
