Is getting a new gaming console even worth it?

I'm torn on whether I should buy a new console or just upgrade my decent laptop.

Consoles more convenient. Most of the time they just work. You can get into a game without worrying(too much) about if the recent updated drivers might mess up a good game. There is also more social activity when it comes to games in general. If you already have an Xbox One X or Playstation 4 Pro you would be ok to hold off for a while.

For gaming purposes - get a console. For work/school - get a laptop.
You can not get a laptop with a graphics power comparable to a console  without spending 5+ times the price of a console..
