How do you protect your phone's data while it's in a repair shop?

You can't. Just wipe the phone and then give it to be repaired. Or a second way is on android using User Profiles. But to do so, you have again to use a new profile. So the best way is just to wipe your Phone.

Yeah make a full backup then wipe phone.

If it's an Android phone running a recentish version and you set a PIN, then the data partition is automatically encrypted. I'm pretty sure iPhones do similar. Of course, if you gave the tech your PIN shrugs
