HOW DOES PHONE SCAM WORKS?

I just want to understand how phone scam works. Maybe someone can give me the answer, thank you!

Usually involves a lot of social engineering tactics. From what I've seen, most of time what the scammer will do is call people pretending to be from a government agency, tech support company, or another legit-sounding organization and use scare tactics to get the victim to send over money or any other sensitive info. Most of them also use fake caller ID's or spoof numbers to make it look like they are calling from said legit organization. You'd think people these days would be smart enough to detect a scam like that, but I guess you also have to think about all the elderly people and/or non-tech-savvy people who don't know any better. That's who most of the victims are anyways.
