Can decentralization be an illusion?

Here's a thought: we so often talk about decentralization as a major advantage of crypto, but are we overreacting? After all, large whale wallets and miners often control huge shares of networks. What if decentralization is just a marketing ploy? How distributed are things really between participants? Or have we just created a new kind of centralized power, but now in digital form?

What do you guys think? Maybe we should rethink our views on all this?
