Telegram wasn't really safe in the first place. Signal is decent, but still wouldn't use a service that needs a phone number to operate. Session may be a better choice

In my opinion the best alternative right now is SimpleX due to the fact it have a lot of potential also features that is similar or can do the same like Telegram. Also it have an unbreackable privacy system. Also its decentralized like Session but in a bit different way. The project is fully open source. But to be honest Session or Signal could be also a big thing in the future but for now SimpleX simply have more features that is like what Telegram have.
