other forums are just fetching data from an API, we are not doing anything different with the difference we store the infos in a cache and read it from there every 2 minutes. that should be totally fine and realtime enough.

PS: I would not try to look or compate what other forums are doing. We are always looking for the most efficient approach for ourself and if there is a way to cache something - we do it. Hence the website is fast, lightweight and responsive, while others take seconds to load (if you still want to compare it with others, take this into consideration before you judge)
